The primary goal of the Avon Police Department is to provide for the security of persons and property within the community. This is accomplished through providing police services dedicated to the protection of life and property, apprehension of offenders, service to its citizens, and providing services that are unbiased, fair, respectful, and judicious. In respect of the dignity of all individuals and through public knowledge and confidence, professional and capable assistance is available in times of emergency.

The Avon Police Department currently has a staff of 3 full-time officers, 5 part-time officers, and one full-time administrative support/records staff. The Avon Police Department also currently employs non-sworn Beach Patrol Officers, as well as non-sworn volunteer Police Reserve Officers.

The Avon Police Department is currently not a 24-hour department. When you call the non-emergency phone number and it is not immediately answered, your call will roll over to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office Dispatchers. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office is the primary public safety answering point for 911 and for roll-over calls of the Avon Police Department. Office hours vary for support/records staff.

You may file a non-emergency complaint, comment, or concern via e-mail at avonpolice@cityofavonmn.com and it will be handled accordingly and contact will be made with you. Include a phone number and address where you can be contacted so that a proper investigation can take place.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I request a copy of a report?

You can contact the police department directly or fill out the records request form and send it via email, USPS or drop off.

Where is the police department?

The police department is located at the Avon City Hall. You enter the main doors and go straight to the police department door where there is a door buzzer to ring for staff. Staff may not always be in the office. It is suggested you call the police department first if you require in-person assistance to make sure someone is available to meet you.

Is there someone there to answer my phone call 24/7?

Yes. If you call (320) 356-7575 your call will be answered 24/7. If staff are not in the office and unable to answer, your phone call will be forwarded to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center where a dispatcher will assist you. We do not have voicemail to leave a message. You will speak to someone directly.

Can I have my house watched if I am on a vacation?

Yes. Fill out an Extra Patrol Request form and provide it to the police department. Officers will observe the outside area of your house when able to on their shifts, and contact you or your keyholder(s) if there are questions or concerns.

Do I need a golf cart permit to drive a golf cart in city limits?

Yes. You will need to fill out the golf cart application and provide proof of insurance. Currently it is $20.00 and expires December 31st. The golf cart application has all the requirements and restrictions listed. If there are any questions on these, please contact the police department.

Can you run my license and print out my driving record for me?

No. You must go to the Minnesota Department of Vehicle Services (DVS). Go to the following website for further information: https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/dvs/Pages/records-request-procedure.aspx

Will you run my criminal history and print it for me?

We are able to do a background check only for the records of the Avon Police Department.

You can request a copy of your criminal history record by going to: https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/bca/Pages/criminal-history-search.aspx

A free criminal history search site (which contains public data maintained by the BCA; Data on criminal convictions is public for 15 years following the completion of any sentence) is also available at: https://chs.state.mn.us/

Where do I search for non-compliant predatory offenders?

You may go to: https://por.state.mn.us/Home.html
